The Security vehicles received by the Judiciary
The Prime Minister, Hon. Robinah Nabbanja, handed over four of ten security vehicles to the Permanent Secretary/Secretary to the Judiciary, Dr Pius Bigirimana. The handover took place at the Judiciary Headquarters, Kampala.
The Prime Minister said, "I believe these vehicles will help us to secure the judges and their families. We need secure people; we need security for our judges and this is a directive by the president."
The PS/SJ expressed his gratitude to the President for the timely intervention and promised to put the vehicles to good use. "These vehicles are going to help us provide the required security for our judges. We promise to keep these vehicles very safe and use them for the purpose they have been provided for. Thank you so much," he said.
The fleet of vehicles have been assigned to the Chief Justice, the Deputy Chief Justice, and the Principal Judge and also to Justices facing security threats.
On Friday (July 15,2022), the Prime Minister handed over the remaining six security double cabin pick-up trucks.
The Prime Minister said the fleet isa fulfilment of the Presidential directive to enhance security for Judicial Officers. Early this week, she handed over four vehicles to the Judiciary, which brings the total number of cars so far given to the Judiciary to boost its security detail to 10.
The vehicles were handed over to the Judiciary Permanent Secretary/Secretary to the Judiciary, Dr Pius Bigirimana at the Judiciary Headquarters.
The Prime Minister thanked the Ministry of Finance for allocating funds. "I thank the Ministry of Finance for providing money in time otherwise we would not have reached here," she said.
The PS/SJ thanked the President for supporting the Judiciary. "I thank the President for his directive to ensure that these vehicles are secured," he said.
He equally thanked the Inspector General of Police, IGP Martin Okoth Ochola who worked hard to ensure the vehicles are delivered on time. He thanked the Prime Minster for being hands on.
"...From the side of Uganda Police, we have made good on the directive of the President. The protective cover for the Judicial Officers is priority on the side of the Uganda Police and we are going ensure that we continue working together to ensure that all our Judicial officers are protected, Commissioner of Police, COP Fred Enanga said. He added that the VIP manpower is ready, just waiting to be deployed."
